Activities around the campsite
The nature around Hjarbæk is unique. Here you can find the fjord with the salted water, beautiful vigorous river valleys, deep blue seas, extensive heath areas and big hardwoods. Big ice glaciers and the colossal melt water created one of the most beautiful and most varied nature in Denmark. With the Starroute Hjarbæk you can experience the varied nature combined with history and enjoy exciting attractions and sights.
Sharpen your senses, everything tastes and scents more and colours look brighter. Experience the lovely nature, enjoy the history and visit the following attractions: Verdenskortet (the world map), Hvolris Jernalderby (Iron Age village), Mønsted and Mønsted Kalkgruber (the limestone mines of Mønsted and Daugbjerg), Danmarks Cykelmuseum (Denmark’s bicycle museum) and much more.
All the cycle trips starts and ends at Hjarbæk Fjord Camping, so you do not have to move your luggage, but can relax after a day with a lot of good experiences on your bicycle.
Star Route Viborg
Is a set of cycling maps (1:50.000) with seven different tours of the region’s sights and attractions. All trips begin and end in Viborg, which means that you can stay at the same accommodation and don’t need to take your luggage with you.
Each of the seven routes is between 35-65 km through wonderful scenery, including Hjarbæk Fjord with its beautiful river valleys or through Kongenshus Heath to the caves at Daugbjerg and Mønsted. One of the more demanding routes is around Hald Lake where the landscape is very hilly and hard work, but where the view over Dollerup Hills and Hald Lake makes it all worth while. Other routes include the Electricity Museum, Bruunshaab Old Cardboard Factory, World Map at Klejtrup and Hvolris Iron Age Village, where you can see 4000 years of Danish history in one location.

The Viborg region has been approved by VisitDenmark as “bicycle friendly”.
Your senses are sharpened. Everything tastes and smells better and colours are brighter and more real, when you travel on two wheels. Bicycling holidays are one of Viborg region’s specialities and the area has been awarded the title of bicycle friendly location by VisitDenmark. There are many places to stay with special facilities for cyclists, including Golf Hotel, Palads Hotel and Danhostel Viborg Youth Hostel, all of which have drying rooms, secure bicycle parking areas and repair sets.
The most famous bicyle route in Viborg Region are Star Route Viborg – 7 local routes in the region and The Hærvej, streching from Viborg to Hamburg, Germany, 543 km in total.
Sea kayaking trips
We have our own beach where you are guaranteed a special experience. Bring your kayak and be lucky and meet the curious seals , see the landscape that glides by you and the sun setting (or even rising) in the dead calm sea. Follow the wind, the waves and the rhythm of the water I your own personal experience on Hjarbæk Fjord.
Hjarbæk Fjord is the southern part of Limfjorden and it is about 10 kilometerse from Viborg and 20 kilometers east of Skive. The low watered Hjarbæk Fjord is run-up by four river systems, south from Fiskbæk River, towards north west Jordbro River and on the east side Skals River and Simested River. Fresh water is induced from the surrounding area of 1200 km2.

Path of hearts
The path of hearts in Hjarbæk is 3.7 kilometers long. The path begins at the camping site next to the reception. It is divided into two circle and about half way through you will be back at the camping site before the path leads you towards Hjarbæk Fjord and Hjarbæk town.
Follow the red marker on the map from the start. The route will be marked with poles with a little heart on it, if necessary with an arrow when you need to change direction. The route is divided in two circles and about midway you will be at the campsite before heading towards the fjord and the city. From here you walk alongside arable fields, and you can follow the farmers different seasons and. After this part of the walk you end up where you started. The trip is about 3.7 km, and is hilly so you get your heart rate up along the way.

Golfing and staying at Hjarbæk Fjord Camping can be combined so that golf players can make a mini holiday out of spending a few days at Hjarbæk Fjord Camping. At the same time, you can enjoy playing golf on a unique and beautiful golf course overviewing Hjarbæk Fjord.

The golf courses at Hjarbæk Fjord Golfklub have a great reputation and recommendations are both from the club’s own members but also very much from domestic and international players. The great reputation is primarily based on the difficulty of the courses, the physical condition of the courses and also the beautiful view. Proark Golf owned the course up until april 1st. 2013, however it is now privately owned and is run in close co-operation with Hjarbæk Fjord Golfklub

Even though the starting point is the same every day, ‘Star route Hjarbæk’ offers many exciting and different experiences – from breathtaking vantage points of Hjarbæk Fjord, trips through lengthy moors to well-earned rest by deep blue lakes.

- This ride will take you around the beautiful Hjarbæk Fjord which is an important resting place for a large amount of water birds.
Here you will find otters, grey herons, kingsfishers, bats and seals. It is not without cause that Hjarbæk Fiord since 1967 has been appointed game preserve. The bicycle route is an amazingly beautiful offering many great vantage points.
Himmerlandsstien (Old railway path)
Himmerlandsstien is 69 kilometers long and runs to Løgstrup , Viborg to Løgstør. The route is established along the closed railway section between Viborg and Løgstør.
The path is for both hikers, bicyclists and riders. The path is coated with rock flour and on a trial basis horseback riding has been allowed next to the path.
The path takes you through varied and beautiful landscapes that change between hilly moraine landscape and great meltwater valleys. This type of nature path on a closed down railway section is safe for traffic and has low rises – a great alternative to the bike holiday along the roads.
